A night for great food, great beer and a great time with ME! (and a bunch of other –way more cool than me– folks too).
Join me for a special opportunity to hobnob with local food and beverage writer-type celebrities, a five-course meal and several of BAROAK’s best, most interesting beers as Chef Teddy Folkman hosts his first Annapolis Beer Dinner on Monday, May 11th at BAROAK in Annapolis. If you aren’t a beer aficionado, you can sit at my table, because I am not either, but I AM willing to learn…and taste….and go back to my rose spritzers (JustKidding, I don’t drink spritzers. I DO do a mean tequila shot though!).
Yours Truly, Naptown Pint’s Liz Murphy, The Beer Spy Nathan Waters and Eye on Annapolis publisher John Frenaye recently teamed up Chef Folkman on a special menu that will be the highlight of an evening characterized by great conversation, great beer and amazing food. The Happy Half Hour starts at 6:30 PM and dinner begins at 7 PM. $55, tax and gratuity not included. Just 20 spots are available so call BAROAK to reserve yours now!

This week Chef Jeremy Hoffman is serving Fluke from Virginia Beach. It comes with creme fraiche, grilled celeriac, jalapeno relish and pea shoots. I could soooooo go for some jalapeño relish right now….
He is replacing the cauliflower with a new vegetarian dish of griddled rice cakes with fried sunchokes, harissa, mint, yogurt and chickweed
Also to note: the minced pork lettuce wraps have been very popular. Hoffman has brought in organic tofu and will make the wraps vegan upon request. The tofu will be dressed with a ginger-garlic sauce.

METROPOLITAN KITCHEN AND LOUNGE
Seriously, this combination sounds enticing! Much of the world loves chocolate, yoga and music, so Metropolitan Kitchen and Lounge decided to blend it all together. Sophia Faris Gibson will guide participants through a Cacao Ceremony with wild-harvested chocolate (cacoa) procured from Guatemalan healers and a course of mindful meditation, to be followed by a gentle, yet invigorating yoga flow with James Foulkes and dancing with Telesma.

MARI VANNA: An Accordion, A Blini and a Bouquet
Mari Vanna, one of my favorite eateries, is a sort of Tolstoy-meets- your grandmother’s-Shabby Chic-tearoom on DuPont Circle in Washington, DC. Make the drive for Mother’s Day Brunch on Sunday, May 10th from 11:30 AM to 4:30 PM. This special event will include a plethora of traditional Russian appetizers, soups and entrees. Best of all —well, not best but certainly the icing on my personal cake—will be a selection of the restaurant’s amazing Russian desserts, which I promise make the trip to DC worthwhile. Enjoy a performance by the Mari Vanna accordionist, a treat in itself that I think the entire family will enjoy. A free flower for mom at the door is a nice touch too.
