Governor Larry Hogan invites chefs using local Maryland ingredients to submit original recipes for the Governor’s Buy Local Cookout, which will be held at Government House in Annapolis in mid-July. The cookout promotes the statewide Buy Local Challenge Week (July 18-26, 2015), during which all Marylanders are encouraged to eat at least one local product each day of the week. Recipes must be submitted by Friday, May 8, and include products from at least one Maryland farmer, waterman, or other producer. Chefs are encouraged to submit simple but creative recipes that showcase ways the average Maryland family can prepare delicious, nutritious meals with locally produced food at home.
Recipes will be chosen in each of the following categories: appetizer, main dish, side dish or salad, and dessert. Selected teams will be invited to provide, prepare, and share their dish at the Governor’s cookout. Complete rules of entry and additional information are posted online. Chefs who have questions, should contact Karen Fedor at Karen.email@example.com or 410-841-5773.

Mother’s Day Brunch
Most area eateries are offering Mother’s Day Brunch, some with special menus. I’ve spoken with chefs at Carroll’s Creek (reservations there are sold out, but if the weather is nice the patio will be open), Severn Inn (offering three seatings at 10:00 am, 12:15 pm and 2:45 pm) Preserve, BAROAK , Metropolitan Kitchen and Lounge (nearly sold out upstairs, check out downstairs) and others who indicate they will present a beautiful brunch in line with their normal offerings. You can click on any of those links for details.
Dry 85 will present their famous Bacon Brunch and dinner on Mother’s Day. While brunch is usually a first come-first served affair at this downtown Annapolis bistro/bar, the restaurant will be taking reservations for Mother’s Day. Call the restaurant or email email@example.com.
