Eat the Mediterranean Way…At Home
Join Chef Amy Riolo, author of The Ultimate Mediterranean Diet Cookbook on Saturday, August 15th from 12pm to 4 pm at Tastings Gourmet Market, as she talks about the bold, herbaceous and healthy flavors of coastal Southern Europe and discusses the importance of olive oils in your daily diet.
The market will also offer samples of a variety of Italian, Spanish and Greek olive oils and balsamic vinegars.

Eastport Kitchen held a job fair last week, which we all hope means they will be opening soon! Be sure to keep an eye out on their location in the Eastport Shopping Plaza. The café aims to dish out homemade breakfast sandwiches, meats roasted in-house, burgers, fresh-cut fries, soups, salads, sides, and sweet stuff too. Back 2 School Jam
The Greene Turtle in Annapolis will host the 2nd Annual Back 2 School Jam on Saturday, August 15th and Sunday, August 16th. The All-Day, Family-and-Pet Friendly version of the party is admission-free and kicks off at noon sharp with A Wing Eating Contest, Watermelon Eating Contest, Free Back-To-School hair cuts, Free Backpack giveaways, live music and so much more. Organic Vegetable Twilight Tour
Organic producers or folks just interested in growing organic vegetables can join the University of Maryland Agricultural Extension on Thursday, August 13th for an informative dinner and wagon tour. Topics include:
- Food safety in organic systems
- Companion plantings for increased bio-control
- The effect of cover crops in pest management

Food Republic says Maryland may just be America’s top oyster state, and now you can get your fix at the Anne Arundel County Farmer’s Market. The Oyster Recovery Project will sell fresh, locally grown oysters at the market on Saturdays from 7am to noon through the fall.

Buy your tickets now for the 48th Annual Maryland Seafood Festival, scheduled this year for September 12th and 13th at Sandy Point State Park. When you buy tickets, add on entry to the super fun Crab Soup Cook Off on Saturday, because just $10 will get you endless tastings of over 25 crab soups from regional restaurants. The CROP HOP is a fundraiser bike tour designed to highlight the connection between farms, fresh food and good health, and to help provide fresh farm foods to low-income families in Southern Maryland. Anne Arundel County will co-host the 2015 crop hop! Riders will tour local farms and enjoy food grown and raised locally at each stop and during the after-ride picnic. The event features four spectacular routes of differing lengths and difficulty through the scenic Southern Maryland countryside.
